Rob Buttery

With over 20 years’ experience editing on a wide range of film and television productions, I bring my natural storytelling skills, curiosity and enthusiasm to every project I work on. My professional knowledge is grounded in a Masters in Documentary Editing from AFTRS, the expertise I’ve gained over many projects and learnings from filmmakers I have shared an edit suite with.

Some of the films I’ve edited include the engaging feature documentary Aussie Rules the World (independent), first-person storytelling Australia’s Great Flood (Nat Geo / ABC) and the forensic investigation Anatomy of a Massacre (ABC).

I’ve worked with top production companies such as CJZ, Matchbox Pictures, Essential Media and Screentime. My editing work has screened at international film festivals, on every free to air network in Australia and globally on Discovery, ITV, CNN and National Geographic.

I enjoy the technical and collaborative nature of filmmaking, working closely with colleagues to solve problems creatively and build stories with flair and emotion. I also work independently, for example on documentaries to identify storylines and construct compelling narratives.

My background in creative arts, as a musician and visual artist, informs my understanding of rhythms and appreciation of detail. This helps me create engaging and accessible films for a wide audience.
