Freelance Survivor with Monica Davidson
Venue: The Cube ACME 23rd March 2019The time was 8:30am, on a rainy and humid Saturday morning as a good crowd of ASE and other Guild members and students gathered in the Flinders St entrance to ACME. The participants were here for insights from a creative industry expert, Monica Davidson. The rest of Australia had benefited from her experience, I was wondering how this would work. No-one was expecting to be entertained.

Monica, equipped with only a video display, a whiteboard and a cleverly prepared agenda, kept us all spellbound for eight hours.
Items discussed in depth were:
Researching business names and ABNs, business plans, money, tax, legal stuff and marketing.
Questions were asked and answered with great detail - her knowledge of the industry was surprising.
(Sam Hardy, Barrie Munro, Gwen Sputore and Monica Davidson.)
I would like to thank Gwen Sputore who had the original idea and put most of the work into applying for funding in 2018, and then this year organizing a venue and catering.
Thanks to Sam Hardy for the flyer graphics, design and photography on the day.
Finally thanks to Madeline Getson, Industry Activities Coordinator from Film Victoria, for helping us in our first application for funding.
I am sure that everyone left that day each armed with a new attitude to achieving their goals.Barrie Munro ASE
