Lawrence Silvestrin ASE

Lawrie has worked as a drama and documentary picture and sound editor and post production supervisor for more than thirty years. During that time he has been nominated for seven Australian Film Institute (now AACTA) Best Editing Awards and a Golden Reel Award - winning the 2014 AACTA Award for Best Editing in a Documentary and an AFI Award for Best Sound Editing. Many of the films he has edited have gone on to win awards all over the world.

His documentary credits include WHITELEY, a feature length film about the life and work of painter Brett Whiteley and DESERT WAR for which he won the AACTA Award for Best Editing as well as the ASE Ellie Award for Best Editing in a Doco Series. It was also nominated for Best Documentary at the 2014 AACTA Awards.

Lawrie has also edited eight other films that have been nominated/won major Australian and International Awards: JANDAMARRA’S WAR – Winner of Best Documentary 2011 AACTA Awards,

Some of Lawrie’s many drama credits include the feature films JUSTICE, BLACKFELLAS and BABE, the short films KARROYUL, BARROW, TANGO UNDERPANTS, HUNT, THE OWL, FALLOUT - LANIUS, EDGAR AND ELIZABETH, IRONBIRD and PARLAMI D’AMORE and the television series SERANGOON ROAD, SLEEPOVER CLUB 2, FOREIGN EXCHANGE, OCEAN STAR, WILDKAT, THE ADVENTURES OF CHUCK FINN, FAST TRACKS, SHIP TO SHORE, SWEAT and CLOWNING AROUND ENCORE.

Lawrie has a number of documentary writing credits and has conducted courses for the Australian Film Television and Radio School, the WA Screen Academy and Curtin University. For almost ten years, he administered the post production strand of the Advanced Diploma of Screen at the Central Institute of Technology where he still lectures. As well, he has been Chairman of the WA Branch of the Australian Screen Editors Guild and has been awarded ASE Accreditation. At the 2016 WA Screen Awards Lawrie was presented with the ScreenWest Outstanding Contribution To the Industry Award in recognition of his for his many editing achievements and his years of service to the film community and the art of film editing.
